She gets this all the time, but believe it or not, Andrea An isn’t a stage name.
It’s the birthname of a multi-talented pop, R&B, and country artist.
Andrea An is a Vietnamese-Canadian singer/songwriter, born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She started taking piano lessons at age six and by the time she was a teenager, she had also taught herself to play guitar.
This wasn’t the last time she’d showcase her DIY ambitions or creative prowess. In fact, Andrea An is an impressive young woman; she’s an artist, studio, and marketing department all rolled into one. She co-owns a recording studio, photography, and videography company called Nolita Studios. She records her own music (alongside her producer/fiancé, Jesse Weiman), and also directs, edits, and produces her own videos. She even does all of her own creative work, everything from her artist photography to her album covers and promotional materials.
As a photographer/videographer, Andrea has a passion for capturing beautiful images. As a songwriter, she captures themes of love, heartbreak, self-empowerment, and reflection. Her voice can be a quiet, falsetto birdsong that raises goosebumps, or a belted out, raging symphony of broken hearts. She harnesses vocal range and control, to elevate songs to the level of emotive storytelling.
Andrea got noticed when she started putting her music on platforms like YouTube and Facebook, generating over 500,000 combined views. She streams live on Twitch every Tuesday at 7 PM CST and Fridays at 2 PM CST.
She has also played venues throughout Saskatchewan, including events for the Saskatchewan Country Music Association, Vietnamese charity events, and larger festivals like the Trifecta Music Festival and the Country Thunder VIP area. Once the pandemic is over, she plans to tour Canada and Asia. She has also worked with a variety of other artists, either as a featured performer, or providing background vocals.
Andrea An is putting forth her music and her dynamic range of abilities to show that it’s possible for women of colour/Asian-Canadians to be visible in the Canadian music industry.
When you hear the name Andrea An, remember; it’s a real name, and she’s real talent.
